badge_button_united_kingdom_flag_1600_wht_1991For the first time since records were first compiled excluding compilations all the top 10 placings have been British artists.

And it means that for the last ten years the No 1 slot has been held by a British artist.

The top 10 albums in the UK in 2014 were:

  1. Ed Sheeran with X
  2. Sam Smith – The Lonely Hour
  3. George Ezra – Wanted on Voyage
  4. Paolo Nutini – Caustic Love
  5. Coldplay – Ghost Stories
  6. Paloma Faith – A Perfect Contradiction
  7. One Direction – Four
  8. Olly Murs – Never Been Better
  9. Pink Floyd – The Endless River (which also topped the vinyl charts)
  10. Take That – III

The highest selling foreign artist was Taylor Swift with 1989 which made No 11.

For the first time in 5 years Michael Buble didn’t have an album in the top 10.

FYI The top selling single was “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.

So well done all you British artists!
